At Fredericia Shipping, we specialise in the handling and storage of steel products. Steel operations have been a core part of our business since the company was founded, and with more than 50 years of experience, we have developed into one of Denmark’s leading hubs for the distribution and storage of steel.
Through our main terminal in Fredericia and our connected storage and rail facilities in Taulov, we handle steel cargo by ship, rail, and road — offering flexible and reliable logistics solutions from arrival to final delivery.
With specialised equipment, climate-controlled storage facilities, and an experienced team, we ensure safe and professional handling of all steel types — from plates and coils to pipes and heavy units.
Terminal handling of steel cargo
Steel cargo operations at Fredericia Shipping are centred on regular vessel calls as well as direct rail deliveries, supported by efficient terminal handling and strong multimodal connectivity.
Across our terminal operations in Fredericia and Taulov, we manage the discharge and handling of a wide range of steel products, including heavy plates, coils, bars, wire rods, pipes, packaged steel, and oversized units with unit weights of up to 35 tons.
Approximately 200,000 tons of steel are handled annually through our terminals, supported by integrated transport solutions by ship, rail, and truck. Terminal handling covers both unitised cargo and special dimensions, with tallying and quality control carried out directly on the quay and rail terminals to ensure accuracy and cargo integrity throughout the operation.
Facilities, Storage, and Equipment for steel handling
Our steel operations are carried out by a specialised team and supported by a fleet of handling equipment designed for heavy and quality-sensitive steel cargo.
Our terminals are equipped with forklifts ranging from 2.5 to 32 tons, magnet handling machinery, 50-ton reach stackers, and tugmasters, enabling us to handle a wide variety of steel units safely and efficiently.
For storage, we offer approximately 12,000 m² of insulated, humidity-controlled warehouses suitable for both short- and long-term storage. The facilities are equipped with crane-mounted magnetic spreaders for steel plates and telescopic steel sheet lifters, ensuring safe and precise handling of sheets and coils.
In cooperation with leading European railway operators, we provide rail freight solutions across Europe, including loading and reloading of steel and construction materials at our terminals in Fredericia and Taulov.
