BULK CARGO OPERATIONS
Bulk operations at Fredericia Shipping are built on many years of hands-on experience with regular bulk vessel calls. We handle a wide range of dry and liquid bulk cargo types, supported by efficient terminal operations and a well-trained operations team.
From vessel loading and discharging to storage and onward handling, we manage the full operational flow with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Our setup allows cargo to move seamlessly from ship to terminal and onwards to customers or further processing.
Fredericia Bulk Terminal
Fredericia Bulk Terminal is one of Denmark’s largest and most automated bulk terminals, designed to support efficient, high-volume handling of bulk cargo with a strong focus on operational reliability and safety.
With more than 11 individual flat bulk storage compartments, a total storage area of approximately 14,000 m², and 10 silos dedicated to grain, the terminal offers flexible and scalable storage solutions for a wide range of bulk commodities.
The overall setup provides a total storage capacity of around 120,000 tons, enabling the handling of products such as grain, feedstuffs, wood pellets, fertilizer, and similar bulk cargoes.
Bulk Storage Compartments and Handling Flow
The bulk storage compartments are designed to support efficient and controlled handling of large cargo volumes. Each compartment is built with 6-metre pressure-proof walls and configured to accommodate different bulk cargo types, depending on product characteristics and handling requirements.
Most compartments are equipped with automatic top filling and semi-automatic emptying via underground conveyor systems, ensuring a continuous and efficient material flow. This setup allows for fast loading and discharging operations while maintaining control over product integrity and operational safety.
Filling and emptying capacity is typically up to 300 tons per hour per compartment, enabling high-throughput operations even during peak activity periods.
Bagging, Weighing and Final Handling
As part of the bulk handling setup, we offer bagging through our own bagging lines at Fredericia Bulk Terminal and in Grenaa. This allows bulk cargo to be packed and prepared for onward distribution directly from the terminal, without unnecessary intermediate handling.
Typical bagging operations include products such as grain, fertilizer, wood pellets, and salt, packed in 5–50 kg plastic bags with a capacity of approximately 1,200 bags per hour. Prior to bagging or truck loading, products can be screened through our own silo batteries to ensure consistent quality and handling accuracy.
Loading and discharging of bulk cargo is performed via our own ship loader or by crane grab, with a capacity of up to 600 tons per hour directly to and from the storage compartments. Combined with weighbridge and flow weighing systems, this ensures precise documentation, control, and a smooth operational flow from vessel to final delivery.
